YOUNG orienteers from a Barrow school had their compasses pointed in the right direction as they tasted success at a national competition.

Children from Holy Family School impressed with their athleticism and map-reading skills at the British Schools Orienteering Championships in Birmingham.

The school placed fifth overall from across the country when all their age-group teams were taken into account, with the best result coming from the Year 6 girls team.

The trio of twins Jasmine and Katie Killip, plus Martha Andrews claimed the silver medal in their event, behind Leicester Grammar School Juniors.

Katie was sixth in the individual standings in a time of 14:36, with Andrews 10thin 15:43, and Jasmine 17th in 17:46.

Katie and Andrews also contributed to the overall team standings, with Joseph Riley's seventh place in the boys Year 6 race and Rhiannan Adams' fifth-placed finish in the girls Year 5 event making up their tally.
