WORLD gold medallist Ella Comish is back is international martial arts action later this month.
The Barrow teenager flies to Dublin to represent England against Ireland on the karate mat.
Comish is part of an England squad, led by Steven Powell, who will contest an event with some of the world's best fighters on July 23.
The Dowdales pupil will travel to Dublin a few days earlier to train with the rest of the England squad, who are all from clubs in the south of the country.
Comish has had a busy few months of training ahead at Barrow Karate, on Hartington Street, under the tuition of Lee Smith.
She will start her fighting schedule at the Dojo on Roose Road for the 2017 Furness Open on July 15, with younger brother Oliver also in action.
Several fighters at the event will be attending various competitions with England squads later in the year.
Comish, who won the English Championships and the world title in 2016, is hoping for another good year after overcoming injuries at the start of 2017.
She fought two opponents with one of her hands hurt at the Northern Open, but still finished third.
The youngster thanked the Sellafield branch of the Unite union for their sponsorship of £900, which has helped her continue her ambition of being a regular English competitor on the world stage.
