JAKE Calvert is British karting’s only triple-0 agent after creating history in defence of a national title.

The Barrow teenager was given a special invitation to contest a third Junior Blue 0-Plate final at Llandow, in Wales.

Calvert has moved up to compete in the Easykart UK Championship, but brought his old kart out of retirement to become the first driver to win the 0-Plate on three occasions.

The Furness Academy pupil broke the track record in the process, leaving his rivals trailing as he took the chequered flag to become national champion for a third time.

Dad Stuart Dorman said: “Nobody had ever won it for two years in a row before Jake came along and now he has won it three times.

“We were invited to defend the title. It was brilliant to be asked back. We were already committed with Easykart, but we took a weekend out.

“We still had our engines and put it on. The categories have changed since Jake last raced Junior Blue, so he had to put on nine kilos of lead and fuel to get into the weights.

“He practised on the first day and he was quick and then on race day, he went out and broke the track record in heat one and broke his own record in the final.”
