A QUICK blast of hockey was the order of the day for more than 100 children battling for primary school supremacy.

Schools from across Barrow took part in two Quicksticks Hockey cluster finals on the 3G pitch at Furness College, enjoying fast-paced action.

The Furness Academy cluster and Walney and Catholic Schools cluster finals saw 120 children enjoy a series of matches to decide who went through to the area finals.

Yarlside Academy, Barrow Island, Dane Ghyll, St James, Ormsgill, St George’s, Victoria Academy, Chetwynde, Holy Family, South Walney Juniors and Vickerstown all took to the field in the first stage of the Cumbria School Games for 2016/17.

The teams from Yarlside, Dane Ghyll and St George’s proved the best in the Furness Academy finals, with Chetwynde and Holy Family qualifying for the next stage from the Walney and Catholic cluster.

The Furness area finals take place at Ulverston Leisure Centre this afternoon, with representatives from the Dowdales and Ulverston Victoria clusters also involved.
