Barrow Celtic U16s 2 Allerdale 2

BARROW Celtic dropped their first points of the Cumbria Women's League season in agonising fashion at Ormsgill.

Leading 2-1 heading into the final minutes, and with a third win from as many games on the cards, the Hoops saw their visitors net an injury-time equaliser to claim a draw.

Celtic started brightly, passing and creating a couple of early chances.

Allerdale battled hard in midfield, but it was the home side who made the breakthrough.

Neat passing play on the left wing from player-of-the-match Hannah Pinney saw her use her pace to at the defence. A fine ball through to Amy Sunderland saw her able to slot home her fourth goal of the fledgling campaign.

The visitors were able to strike back late in the half as a corner was not cleared and, instead, bounced around the area before being put in the back of the net.

The Hoops were quick out of the gates again after the break, playing some nice football and going ahead for a second time.

Pinney was producing some of her best football down the left wing and her cross rebounded back to her and dribbled inside and took a shot. It was saved, but the rebound went straight back to the feet of the Celtic girl, who made no mistake second time around.

Having battled to be in front, there was late heartbreak in second-half stoppage time.

Much as with their first goal, an Allerdale corner was not cleared and bobbled around inside the area waiting to be touched home. It was and the final whistle went soon after.

While disappointed at the outcome, Celtic still have a lot to build on going into the rest of the season on the back of seven points from nine so far.
