Clifton Rangers U14s 1 Hawcoat Park U14s 4

HAWCOAT Park marched on the Lancashire Cup after coming from a goal down to triumph at Clifton.

The Poulton and District Primary League side were strong, physical opponents, but their Barrow visitors had too much class at the end of the day.

Hawcoat started strongly and had early chances from Jack Milburn and Fleming.

But they were to fall behind when a Clifton counter-attack caught out the defence, resulting in a well-taken goal from the home side.

The lead did last long, as Lewis Woodend and Harry Smith started to control the middle of the park for the visitors.

The ball was played out to the right, where a cross from Milburn caused a goalmouth scramble, with Adam Allsopp prodding the ball goalwards and slipping it past the keeper for the equaliser.

With this, Hawcoat started to dominate and break down the Clifton resistance.

A foul resulted on the halfway line after good pressing from Park, and Jack McKechnie floated an inch-perfect ball over the Clifton defence, which Allsopp brilliantly drilled into the top corner with a volley.

The second half started in the same pattern as the first, with the visitors dominating play.

The defence from Fittes, McKechnie, Sue, Mackenzie Rushton and Max Nisbet was solid, keeping Clifton to long range shots which could not trouble Oscar Jones in goal.

A corner from Kane Fleming caused the Clifton keeper to palm the ball out under pressure, landing straight at Smith's feet and allowing him to drill into the roof of the net for a 3-1 lead to the Barrow Junior Football League outfit.

The fourth came as tireless closing down from Morgan Trelore and Milburn caused the ball to break to the right wing.

Fleming was quick to react first and break down the right, slotting a great through ball in behind the Clifton back four which Milburn ran on to before coolly rounding the keeper and slotting into the empty net.

Hawcoat's reward for an excellent all-round performance is a home draw against against Foxhall, another team from the Poulton and District Primary League.
