BARROW and District League leaders Askam look to build on their standings as they host Dalton tonight.

The Villagers went to the summit of the Furness Tile and Flooring Division with a 37-18 victory against Ulverston last week.

They should have too much power for Dalton, but their visitors like to play open rugby – shown in a 40-30 defeat against Barrow Island last week – and can push them all the way.

Askam led Ulverston 30-4 at half-time last week, after a poor showing from the Dragley Beck outfit.

Ulverston won the second half 14-7, but some strong Askam tackling saw them take the points with a 37-18 victory.

Luke Duncalfe led the way for the Villagers with three tries, backed up by Jack Cairns (2), Grady Slater and Brad Jackson, who also kicked four goals and a drop goal.

For Ulverston, Joe Ward, Dave John, Johnny Hutton, Brad Williamson were the try scorers. Liam Whinfeild kicked a goal.

Ulverston travel to Hindpool tonight, looking for a win to keep the pressure on Askam.

But, if Hindpool can put their regular squad together, they might just surprise their visitors.

The Tigers were beaten 44-6 by Walney last week, who has Jacob Helyer, Dave Nicholson, Tom Lamb, Jonathan Corkhill, George Nicholls (2), Dale Waite and Declan Gavin crossing the whitewash. Nicholls and Lamb added three goals each.

Connor Goodings scored the try and kicked the conversion for Hindpool.

Walney head to Rating Lane this evening for what is set to be a tough match, with both sides on four points and looking to climb the table.

Island's 40-30 victory over Dalton was in a game which flowed from end to end, but their experience helped them hold out.

Jamie Wilkes, Reece Craig (2), Ryan Clegg (2) and Chris Burns (3) were the try-scorers, while James Howden kicked seven goals and Jamie Curtis one.

For Dalton, Tom Sharp (2), Elliot Jackson, Ioan Hayes, Adam Langhorn and Lee Park went over to score, with Joe Crarey kicking three goals.

The draw has been made for the Harry Warman Cup.

Holders Barrow Island are at home to Hindpool, with the winners playing Ulverston.

There is a local derby between Askam and Dalton, with the victors taking on Walney.

On September 11, Cumbria Under-19s will play Scotland at Maryport.

Tonight's Fixtures: Askam v Dalton (7pm); Barrow Island v Walney (6.30pm); Hindpool v Ulverston (6.30pm).
