BARROW and District League leaders Askam face a Hindpool side full of confidence on the back of their first win of the season tonight.

The Villagers and the Tigers both advanced to the semi-finals of the Harry Warman Cup last week and will head into this week's match looking to build on those results.

For bottom-of-the-league Hindpool, their maiden victory of the campaign came 36-34 over Barrow Island, with the handicap giving a 48-42 success.

The game was played at a fast pace and could have gone either way, but Hindpool stuck to their task with some strong tackling to keep the Island at bay.

Lee Boyd (2), Chris Tyson, Connor Harper, Jordan Mason and Tom Heighton crossed the whitewash for the Tigers, with Callom Dale kicking six goals.

Lewis Sayle scored three tries for Barrow Island, with others from Ash Mowat, Reece Craig and Dave Thwaites. James Thwaites landed five goals.

Tonight's opponents Askam had to pull out all the stops against a plucky Dalton side who had a 10-points start on the handicap and only sealed the result in the last quarter.

Dalton gave a good account of themselves, going in at half-time with an 18-16 lead, but fell away in the second half to lose 40-25.

Askam's try-scorers were Tom Askew (2), Grady Slater (2), Gareth Richards, Ross Tippett and Gareth Casson, with Brad Jackson landing six goals.

Elliott Jackson and Ryan Johnson crossed the whitewash for Dalton, with Johnson converting both tries, kicking a penalty and putting over a drop-goal.

The semi-finals Askam (0) host Walney (5) and Hindpool (12) at home to Ulverston (2).

Dalton go to Walney tonight looking to build on that opening hour against Askam but facing a side who, despite missing a number of players, pushed Ulverston close last week as the Dragley Beck side moved to joint-top in the division.

Ulverston had the upper-hand as they took an 18-6 half-time, which was 28-16 by the finish.

Tries came from Johnny Hutton (2), Brad Williamson, Ryan John and Harry Kaye. Liam Whinfield kicked four goals.

Danny O'Neil (2) and Jake Deveraux crossed the whitewash for Cents, with Dave Nicholson landing two goals.

Tonight's Fixtures (6.30pm): Hindpool v Askam, Walney v Dalton.
