THE Stars and Stripes will fly alongside the Union Jack as rally speedster Aaron McClure bids for glory this year.

The 21-year-old Flookburgh driver has welcomed experienced co-driver Alex Kihurani on board to guide him through his 2016 BTRDA Series title assault.

The London-based American will sit alongside McClure in his Mitsubishi as they target the BTRDA Production Cup.

Kihurani has a wealth of experience in several major rally championships, both at home and in Europe, and kicks off his year with McClure in the Cambrian Rally next month.

Having recently announced continued backing from All Floors Express, McClure had been on the hunt for a new co-driver as previous partner Elliott Edmondson has an expanding programme in the British Rally Championship.

“Having a quality co-driver alongside you is just as important as a good engine or tyres,” said McClure, who finished third in the N4 class of the all-gravel championship last year.

“And finding someone that you feel comfortable with, both in and out the car, is vital if you are to have a chance of winning together.

“Elliott and I worked really well together, but he has other commitments, so I set about looking for someone equally as fun and capable.

“I knew Alex from the British Rally Championship a few years ago and his experience in the sport is really impressive.

“We get on really well too so it was a natural fit for us both and I’m really looking forward to getting out on the stages together.”

Kihurani is equally keen to get the season underway, and said: “I’m really excited to be sitting alongside Aaron this coming season.

“Last year he proved he has the pace to win in the most competitive class in the BTRDA, even as he continues to learn the car. “Also, we get on really well, and the championship title seems viable, so I’m looking forward to a year filled with great battles and quality, fun events a little closer to home.”
