BARROW AFC manager Pete Wild is hoping for positive news on the injury front ahead of today's League Two clash with Grimsby Town.

Speaking ahead of the game, The Bluebirds boss admitted he was waiting to see if loan signing Luca Stephenson would be available to face The Mariners.

He told The Mail: “Luca is 50-50. We’ve had his scan back and we are just waiting to see how he reacts to training before we make a decision.

“Thankfully, the scan wasn’t as bad as we first thought, so it’s all about taking a look at him in training, seeing how he comes through it and making he’s OK for the game.”

One player who definitely won’t be featuring is skipper Niall Canavan, who is still recovering from a pulled calf.

However, Wild did reveal that there had been some positive progress in the defender’s recovery.

He added: “Hopefully, Niall will be back next weekend.

“He will have another scan on Tuesday to make sure everything is clear and if that’s the case he can have a couple of days training with us and if there’s no complications from that then he will be ready to go next weekend.”
