ENGLAND Lioness Georgia Stanway has been selected for Sarina Wiegman’s squad as they start their quest to qualify for Euro 2025 in Switzerland.

The Lionesses face Sweden in their first A3 group match at Wembley Stadium on April 5 (kick-off, 8pm).

They will then travel over the Irish Sea to face the Republic of Ireland at the Aviva Stadium on April 9 (kick-off, 7:30 pm).

Barrovian Stanway has been ever present in Wiegman’s sides since she took over the reins as England boss in August 2020.

The 25-year-old combative midfielder, who plays her club football for Bayern Munich in the Frauen-Bundesliga, has scored 17 goals in 65 matches for her national side.

Last weekend she notched her third goal of the season in Bayern’s 4-0 demolition away to closest rivals Wolfsburg.

Stanway is part of a squad consisting of Mary Earps, Lucy Bronze, Fran Kirkby, Ella Toone, Lauren Hemp, Beth Mead and Alessia Russo.

England will also have to pit their wits against France twice in the group stage.

Speaking ahead of the matches, boss Sarina Wiegman, who saw her side beat Austria 7-2 and Italy 5-1 in last month’s game, told the Football Association: “There’s no time to waste.

“February's window showed who we are and where we want to go and we'll look to continue that momentum from the minute we arrive at St. George's Park next week.

"We know it's a challenging group, but it's really exciting. These are all big games that will test us and that's the kind of fixtures we want to play in.

"Every opponent we face is a top nation and we know we have to perform at our best to achieve our goals. We'll be ready for Sweden at Wembley.

"Wembley has been the home of some of our biggest moments together and it holds such special memories.

"It's no coincidence that we feel inspired when we play there.

“The fans have provided such fantastic support every time and there's no doubt they can help us again against Sweden."
