BARROW AFC boss Pete Wild says trust has played a big part in the success so far.

The Bluebirds boss is a big believer in horses for courses and tries to make sure he picks the right side for each individual game.

That has stood them in good stead for the majority of the campaign, with the Cumbrians currently sixth in the League Two table and just six points off an automatic promotion spot.

Wild has had to ring the changes throughout the season, and while some bosses can find it difficult to keep everyone on board, he has been delighted with how the squad have bought in to the process.

“I think there’s a trust there (with the players) even though they are frustrated because they all want to play.

“I get that because they all deserve to play.

“But that trust element means they understand that we are trying to do the best for the team and the squad.

“I think they understand that if the team that plays does well, then the squad does well.

“Everyone has really bought into that mindset, and I’m really pleased with that.”

Wild says there is no real secret to making that process work, but that he is always straight with the players.

He added: “All I have to do is be honest with them and tell them why, and once they know that they can work as hard as they can to get back in the squad.

“I think that 95 per cent of the time when we’ve picked players for the right games it’s brought dividends.

“And one of the other really pleasing things is that by and large when lads have been given their chances they have taken them.

“I keep telling them that I can’t tell you when your chance is going to come, but you best be ready when it does.

“I think it has shown with the bigger squad this season how important it has been to have options.

“And between now and the end of the season, I’m sure we are going to need every one of them.

“We have a good set of players here, and we have a lot of experienced players here and I think that helps also.

“We are all pulling in the same direction, and we are all committed to being the best version of Barrow that we can be.

“Like I have said before there are always going to bumps in the road and challenges, but it is about how you deal with them or how you bounce back from them.

“And for the most part this squad has done exactly that and long may it continue.”
