DEAN Campbell saw a first-half penalty saved as Barrow suffered a frustrating stalemate against stubborn Harrogate Town.

Midfielder Campbell was the midweek hero at Walsall with an equalising spot kick.

This time his effort was kept out by James Belshaw who earned the visitors a backs to the wall point.

Despite a string of chances Barrow couldn’t break the deadlock on their way to a fourth successive game unbeaten.

But Pete Wild’s side remain in the promotion picture and will look to maximise and avoid similar disappointment in their forthcoming home fixtures against Newport and Grimsby.

Wild kept the same starting line-up from Tuesday’s visit to Walsall against opponents who despite kicking-off 14th, boasted an enviable away record, especially recently with draws at Wrexham, Swindon and Crewe.

And the Sulphurites almost grabbed a second minute lead. Matty Daly’s low shot was heading for the bottom corner until skipper Farman stuck out a leg.

Town forced another corner and while Barrow initially cleared their lines there were sighs of relief as Warren Burrell skied a great chance from 12 yards.

Cole Stockton’s blocked shot led to Barrow’s opening corner after 13 minutes, but Newby’s delivery was poor.

Rory Feely’s accuracy was far more dangerous three minutes later, the defender cutting in from the left and striking the crossbar with a curling right foot effort.

Stockton then attempted something of a trademark ultra-long-distance attempt but his shot from the centre circle couldn’t trouble goalie Belshaw.

Campbell was also off target with a free-kick before his 26th minute spot of bother after Burrell’s foul on Harrogate-based Robbie Gotts.

Campbell netted to the keeper’s left at Walsall but opted to go right this time and Belshaw saved low down.

Barrow managed 11 shots in the first half with just one on target. The first effort of the second fell to George Ray, but the centre half’s header went wide.

Newby, still waiting for his first goal of the season, exchanged passes with Acquah and whipped in a right-foot effort, but again Belshaw remained untroubled.

Gotts and Newby then combined and Belshaw’s touch on the latter’s cross frustrated Acquah’s attempt to make clean contact from inside the six-yard area.

Newby made way for Whitfield after 64 minutes and the top scorer enlivened the home faithful with a run to the edge of the 18-yard box and shot which fizzed wide.

With 18 minutes remaining George Ray, Acquah and Gotts made way for Tyrell Warren, Dom Telford and Sam Foley.

Telford was denied a potential winner as Anthony O’Connor cleared close to his own line with Belshaw beaten.

And that was as close as Barrow came as Harrogate held out under constant pressure to deny Wild’s side a League Two double.
