BARROW AFC defender Rory Feely is determined to grab his chance to shine with both hands.

Feely has been called upon following an injury to Niall Canavan, and while he sympathises with his skipper, he wants to make the most of his opportunity.

Speaking to the club’s official Facebook page, he said: “Obviously the opportunity has come at the expense of Naz (Canavan), and we really don’t want to be missing our captain, but getting myself back into the starting 11 was kind of a really big goal for me coming towards the end of the season.

“I’m happy to be there, and do what I can in his place for the short period he is going to be out.

“I’m kind of going into each week thinking that’s my job, I’ve got to keep doing the same job that he does week in, week out.”

Feely said that the Bluebirds had aimed to take all three points from their clash against Walsall on Tuesday night.

But the Irishman admitted that the 1-1 draw was a good point on the road.

“It was a really, really tough game,” he said. “It was one where we thought we might be able to get away with three points, but we’re happy with an away point.

“It kind of shows the mentality we’ve got in the squad that we are coming into each game wanting to win.

“Being that little bit disappointed with an away draw is what we are all about as a squad. But it is a positive result, so we move forward.”
