BARROW Raiders head coach Paul Crarey heaped praise on his side's clinical display after their 8-30 Cumbrian derby win against Workington Town.

The Raiders headed to the Fibrus Community Stadium on Sunday for their opening 1895 Cup group stage match.

Crarey’s side were 0-12 to the good at half-time following captain Jarrad Stack and Ryan Johnston’s first half tries.

Despite being in a comfortable lead, Crarey warned his players against complacency at the interval, and they delivered as Stack, Max Clarke and Aaron Smith all bundled over to put the Raiders 28-0 up with 20 minutes to play.

Dave Eccleston reduced the arrears for the hosts on the 71st minute but they were unable to mount any comeback as Ryan Shaw converted a penalty goal from his own half three minutes from time.

Speaking to the Club website after the match, Crarey said: “In the first half, we had 86 per cent completions and were so clinical.

“We were really squeaky clean and took our chances in what was a horrendous wind.

“I’m so proud of the lads. Any Cumbrian derby is a difficult fixture whether it is home or away. Form goes out of the window, but we came here and did a great job.

“It was a job well done to do a number on a side that was looking forward to playing us, but there is a lot to work on still as a team.”
