Barrow AFC have been given a boost after finding out attacking midfielder Luke Burgess will be available for their FA Cup tie at Chorley despite taking a blow to the head at Bromley last week.

Burgess was forced off after half an hour at Hayes Lane when he took an elbow to the side of the head, with the other side crashing against the artificial surface as he landed heavily.

After a lengthy period of treatment, the 19-year-old was stretchered from the field in a neck brace, but the injury thankfully looked worse than it was and he was able to travel back with the team that evening.

Barrow manager Ian Evatt said: “Luke is very well, he’s passed the concussion protocols, so he will be available for the weekend, which is a big plus for us.”

There is less positive news, however, for full back Lee Molyneux, who pulled a hamstring in the second half against Bromley and is doubtful to face the club he spent the last few months of last season with.

His place at left-back will likely go to Rhys Norrington-Davies after his return from international duty with Wales under-21s.

Evatt now has him at his disposal for the rest of the season, following the extension of his loan from Sheffield United.

Molyneux will likely join long-term absentees Matthew Elsdon, Rhys Turner and Nathan Waterston on the side-lines for what promises to be a tricky tie against the Magpies.

But veteran centre-back Brian Wilson could be set for his first start in over two months after he made his comeback off the bench at Bromley and, fortunately, their ‘3G’ surface hasn’t taken too much of a toll.

Evatt said: “The players are all OK, Brian Wilson came out of it really well, which is pleasing after his calf injury, the amount of time he’s had out and the surface we were playing on.

“He’s had no adverse reaction to his calf, which is good news, and he’ll also be available this weekend.”
