Winger Ryan Burroughs, who played on loan for Barrow Raiders this year, will be part of the USA’s squad for their upcoming Americas Championship campaign.

The competition doubles up as qualification for the 2021 Rugby League World Cup and the Hawks will take on newcomers Chile in the semi-finals at the University of North Florida, Jacksonville, on Tuesday 13 November.

Should they progress, they will face the winners of Canada v Jamaica four days later.

Burroughs, who has seven international caps, played a big part in keeping the Raiders in the Betfred Championship after signing on loan from Toronto Wolfpack midway through the season.

The 27-year-old has credited his spell at Craven Park, in which he scored three tries in 12 appearances, with him rediscovering his love for rugby league.

Burroughs isn’t the only England-based player to be named in the USA squad, with Hull’s Bureta Faraimo and Hull KR’s Junior Vaivai two of the threequarters in the 30-man group.

Players from the Raiders’ Championship rivals are also included, in the form of Sheffield Eagles duo Corey Makelim and Mark Offerdahl and Toulouse’s Sonny Pettybourne, who receives his first call-up.
