ETHAN Holt booked his place in the regional final of this year’s England Boxing Novice Championship after a victory on Sunday.

The Barrow ABC boxer was up against R Walmsley, of Pool of Life ABC, in the semi-final at Tameside Elite in Manchester and scored a unanimous decision win.

Holt is back in action at the same venue this Sunday, although unfortunately he will not be joined by clubmate Lewis Symon.

He suffered a defeat to W Evans, from Hyde & District ABC, in his semi-final encounter.

That followed a good win for Symon on a show in Blackburn last week, where he beat the host club’s D Westwood via a unanimous decision.

The same show saw Brandon Smith suffer a points defeat.

One Barrow boxer who will be competing alongside Holt is Paul O’Reilly, who got a bye through to his area final in the Novice Championship.

Barrow pair Ethan Doyle and James Braithwaite are fighting further afield this weekend, heading out to the Netherlands as part of the North West regional squad to take on some of the best Dutch amateurs around.

The event in Alphen aan den Rijn this Saturday sees Doyle up against Dave Zwanenburg and Braithwaite facing Nabil Yousfi.

Braithwaite is preparing for the final of the British championship belt tournament as well, as is clubmate Steve Eilbeck. Those take place on October 24.
