IAN Evatt was delighted for Barrow AFC after they earned three points with a win over Maidenhead United.

The first half saw Barrow overrun the visitors, with John Rooney opening the scoring after 25 minutes.

Tyler Smith put the seal on the win 15 minutes from time and Evatt felt the result was a reward for their recent display.

“I’m really pleased for the lads because the last few games have been tough for them mentally,” said Evatt.

“We have gone to Boreham Wood last weekend and only a last-minute wonder-strike has stopped us, before that we have dominated against Dagenham and missed penalties against Hartlepool and Solihull.

“We have deserved more from all of those games and here they finally got exactly what they deserved for their performance.

“In the first half, football-wise, we took control of the game and were excellent. The goal we scored was world class; you won’t see a better goal in English football this weekend and we could have been two or three up at half time.”

But whilst the Bluebirds dominated large parts of the game, they found themselves under pressure when the visitors had a fifteen minute spell in the second half, and the Barrow boss was pleased with how his players stood up to that test.

“We’re never going to dominate a game for 90 minutes,” said Evatt.“There are no mugs in this league and every game is a physical, tough battle. Here, my lads stood up to that battle.

“In the second half we had to dig in and have managed to stand up to it, we’ve had a few knocks and still come through it. I’m really proud of them and credit to every single one of them.”
