PAUL Crarey was delighted after his Barrow Raiders side claimed their first away win of the year with a dramatic 24-22 triumph over Sheffield Eagles.

In the week, Crarey stated that ‘Mission: Impossible’ had been completed and the Raiders were fully deserving of this win – even though they left it late thanks to Ryan Burroughs’ 77th-minute try.

Jamie Dallimore still had to convert to put the Raiders two points up and he did just that, to the delight of the boisterous Barrow following.

“We probably needed that win more than Sheffield,” said Crarey. “I know it’s hard to take for Mark (Aston, Eagles coach), but we needed it to get the monkey off our back and to finish off a very difficult season,” said Crarey.

“I thought it was a very good game between two teams who had one league position to find.

“I am so pleased for the players, the fans and the lads.”

Crarey also addressed his side’s major injury problems, something that reared its head again with Lewis Charnock and Martin Aspinwall both playing despite illness and Declan Hulme receiving a head knock.

“Lewis Charnock and Martin Aspinwall were both ill, we had to use Martin off the bench, and Ryan Johnston who has been away on holiday was on the bench and we didn’t use him,” said Crarey,

The Raiders chief handed major praise to Dallimore for his winning goal and the part he played in securing the win with his general play.

“He is a quality player and he has had to work through a beaten pack sometimes,” Crarey said.

“He had the world upon his shoulders and kicked the ball into a gale force wind, ten metres from the touchline, and it just clawed its way over the bar.”
