IAN Evatt is looking forward to the comforts of home when Barrow AFC welcome Maidenhead United to Holker Street tomorrow.

The match is the first of two back-to-back games for the Bluebirds on their own patch, with Gateshead United making the trip to South Cumbria on Tuesday as well, having being held to a 1-1 draw thanks to a last-gasp equaliser by hosts Boreham Wood last Saturday.

Tomorrow’s attendance is likely to be swelled by families and children taking advantage of the free ticket offer the club and Bluebirds Trust have put on for this match, and Barrow boss Evatt has been delighted with how the fans have stuck by the team during the recent tough run of results.

“Obviously, I love been at home,” said Evatt. “The way the town and the fans have really backed us and what we’re trying to do.

“I think we’ve been so unfortunate in the last four games. Even anyone without my Barrow-tinted spectacles on would say we’ve deserved to win all four games, but for whatever reason we haven’t.

“We were 30 seconds out from winning on Saturday and two missed penalties and missed chances in other games have cost us, but overall our performances have been good.

“We just need to start a string of results together now to be at the end of the table I think we should be at.”

Maidenhead United are coming into the fixture having hammered early Vanarama National League high-flyers Halifax Town 3-0 at York Road.

The Magpies started the season off poorly, but wins against Halifax , Eastleigh, Braintree Town and Maidstone United have seen Alan Devonshire’s men catapult up the table, currently sitting in 13th place with 14 points.

Conversely, Evatt’s side have not won since they played Braintree at Holker Street on the August Bank Holiday weekend which preceded the current run of five games with out a win following defeat at Salford on the Monday.

Even so, Evatt has taken plenty of encouragement from AFC’s overall performances at places like Hartlepool United and Boreham Wood, and believes it will not be long before they start firing away from home.

“I don’t think you’ll get two harder places to go to than Hartlepool and Boreham Wood,” said Evatt.

“We’ve deserved to win both games and should have won both games, and that’s great credit to the lads. The home form will hopefully carry on although the last two games have been disappointing.

“But definitely, the away form is a matter of time now before we get that win. We just want to get that monkey off our backs.”
