BRADD Crellin will take his Barrow Raiders career into a fifth season after becoming the latest current squad member to sign a contract for the 2019 Betfred Championship.

The second row is one of the unsung heroes of the Raiders team, doing much of the unglamorous work in defence and carrying the ball early in the tackle count.

But his worth to the side is fully understood by head coach Paul Crarey and his staff, with Barrow rugby director Andy Gaffney pleased Crellin has extended his stay.

“Bradd’s one of those player when he’s on the field, his stats are always in the top three or four,” said Gaffney.

“Supporters don’t really see the work he puts in, but when you do the stats on games he is always up there in terms of tackling, carries and support.

“He plays the ball quickly and he always finds the front foot, and it just proves what an important part of the squad his is now.”

Indeed, Gaffney hailed Crellin and fellow Millomite Nathan Mossop as examples for others to follow.

“He’s Mr Dependable,” said Gaffney. “There aren’t many errors in him and he’s a really good player to have in your squad.

“He trains hard and he comes down with Mossy, and the pair of them are role models, really.”
