JOE Bullock has shown what hard work and dedication can achieve after being signed by Wigan Warriors, according to Barrow Raiders rugby director Andy Gaffney.

The prop will return to the Super League side he played for at youth level on a three-year contract from the start of the 2019 season, having been tracked by Wigan for some time.

Initially brought in on loan from Leigh Centurions, Bullock has been a key component of Barrow’s successes under head coach Paul Crarey and Gaffney is pleased to see him get this chance.

“He’s been a model professional,” said Gaffney. “He lives and breathes rugby, and he’s a great role-model for any youngster coming up.

“He’s put a lot of hard work and dedication in at Barrow and he’s got his just rewards by getting the chance to go to Wigan.

“I’m sure he’ll do very well there and I wish him all the best. Joe is a true professional and I’m glad he’s got his opportunity, but it just goes to show what can be developed at this club.

“As I’ve said before, Cresta seems to get the best out of players and it’s a good place to come.”

Gaffney also confirmed the Raiders are in the market for a new prop, with Alec Susino returning to Australia to complete his university degree.

“We are looking at bringing other players in,” said Gaffney, adding”Alec will be a really big miss for us, he’s done really well this year, and Joe will be as well.”
