ALEC Susino was honoured with three accolades, including The Mail’s player of the year award, at Barrow Raiders’ end-of-season presentation night.

The event at the Soccer Bar in the town on Sunday evening followed the Raiders’ final home game of the season, in which they beat Swinton Lions 34-18.

Along with The Mail prize, the Australian prop was voted by his team-mates as players’ player of the year and won the club’s Man of Steel award, underlining the impact he has had during his season at Craven Park.

Fellow off-season recruit Jono Smith won the supporters’ player of the year and the Yorkie Coyle award, showing how much of a fans’ favourite he has quickly become.

Jarrad Stack came top of the player of the year points standings as compiled by head coach Paul Crarey and his coaching staff, edging compatriot Susino out by one point.

Tom Loxam took the most improved player of the year prize, Ryan Johnston was named young player of the year and Dan Toal won the coach’s merit award.

Along with the playing staff, a number of awards were handed out to honour those who perform vital off-field roles at the Raiders.

Long-serving volunteer Bob Jefferson was named club-person of the year, Ray McGuire won supporter of the year, Peter Brunton was chosen as volunteer of the year and Karen Scarr got the directors’ recognition award.
