CONNOR Brown expressed what many Barrow AFC fans were thinking after the team were held to a 1-1 draw away to Boreham Wood on Saturday, writes Liam Bewsher.

The full-back was left crestfallen after the Wood snatched a stoppage-time equaliser, with the visitors having taken the lead through John Rooney late on.

And Brown took to Twitter afterwards, echoing the sentiment of Barrow manager Ian Evatt that they deserved more than a share of the spoils.

“In the 93rd minute I wanted the ground to swallow me up,” said Brown. “The lads worked so hard for that first away win and we should have walked away with three points!

“Someone upstairs is really testing us, but we’ll come through the other side.”

The 26-year-old added: “It’s a pleasure to play in this team, the way we play is getting recognised and we will no doubt come through the other end.”

The former Sheffield United right-back will be hoping him and his team mates can bounce back from the setback and start putting a run of positive results together, beginning with the visit of Maidenhead United to Holker Street this Saturday.

Brown was not the only one to take to social media to express his views on the game, with many of AFC’s supporters doing likewise.

Following Keiran Murtagh’s late equaliser for the Wood, Javen Wallace said: “We’re a little bit out of luck and defensive composure away from being a solid team, but we just need to work on being clinical and seeing games out, still not a bad result, we go again next week.”

AFC sit in 15th place in the Vanarama National League on 12 points and are seven points off the play-offs at this early stage, as well as sitting just three points above the relegation zone.

The Bluebirds have failed to win two games on the bounce since December 23 last year, which is certainly something Evatt will be looking to change as he sets his sights on a play-off place.

And Andrew Dixon focused on Barrow’s rather average points tally at this stage in the season, saying: “I’ve seen some good football compared to recent years, but all I can see is a relegation dog fight”.

Whereas Chris Whiteside simply summed up the feelings of every AFC fan as he said: “Gutted, absolutely gutted.”
