BRITISH Legion’s two teams lead the way in the Barrow Friday League snooker standings after going head-to-head in the second round of matches.
Ray Gardner took the first game of the night with a 61-36 win over Dave Simpson, but Legion A’s captain John Tyerman responded by beating Mike Smith 77-43.
Billy Burns, last year’s aggregate winner, then lost out to Keith Meloy 44-38 in a black-ball decider.
Roose Cons had the best snooker result of the night, winning 3-0 against BFSC, in which Dave Kewley took the top man’s game against Stuart Culbert 41-20 .
The other two results were nail-biting black-ball games where Lee Majors edged Steve Redpath 48-47 and Nick Wilkes won 43-40 against Adam Cook.
Navy B earned two away points at Vickerstown Cricket Club, with Joe O’Leary getting the better of Josh Francis 59-29 and Dave Wilkie winning against Paul Fitzpatrick 45-30.
Peter Scott beat Andy Charnley 54-35 to pull a point back for the Cricketers.
In the billiards, Vickerstown’s captain Gareth Willis scored a 100-69 win over Paul Kyle, followed by a 100-84 win for David Holmes against Dave Simpson and Peter Scott taking a tight game against Ian Large100-97.
Legion A defeated Legion 2-1, Allan Edmondson taking the first game by beating Steve Hetherington 100-34. Tony Macmillan won a tight game 100-97 against Kevin Quinn and Paul Fieldhouse won 100-78 against Colin Taylor.
Roose Cons won 2-1 at BFSC, with wins for Ray Cooney against Jimmy Wilson 100-77 and Rob Chissim beating Alan Bonner 100-65. Denis Plant won 100-83 for the hosts against Peter Roberts.
Last year’s darts champions Legion A were in fine form on the oche, beating Legion 6-1 with wins for Shaun McPoland, Keith Moscrop, Steve Hetherington, Dave and Tony McMillan and Mala McCoy. Quinn stopped Legion being whitewashed.
Vickerstown and BSFC both won their darts matches 5-2 against Navy B and Roose Cons respectively.
Navy B lead the early welch don standings following a 6-3 win over Vickerstown.
Ray Procter/Pat Kyle, Pat Fogharty/ Chris Kirkby and Dave Wilkie/Dave Simpson all triumphed for Navy.
Legion A ran out 7-2 winners over Legion and the other match of the night saw BSFC defeat Roose Cons 6-3, which included Dave Blakeborough being part of winning pairs with Brian Hotchkiss and Alan Bonner
