PAUL Crarey praised Barrow Raiders’ second-half performance as they overcame Swinton Lions 34-12 in yesterday’s Betfred Championship Super Eights match at Craven Park.

The Raiders conceded a try on the first set of the match and trailed by two points at half time, but rallied after Swinton’s George Tyson was sin-binned for dissent.

Two tries apiece from Ryan Burroughs and Brett Carter helped secure the win, with even second-half yellow cards for Ryan Duffy and Martin Aspinwall not denting the Raiders’ dominance after the break.

“I thought we were a bit sloppy in the first half,” said Barrow head coach Crarey. “We didn’t kick the ball well at the back end of sets and we didn’t defend well on transition.

“That’s the only way they broke us down, really, but apart from that we were in it and when we executed, we scored some nice tries.

“In the second half, with the wind behind us, we knew they wouldn’t be able to kick their way out of trouble and we just needed to up the tempo of the game.

“When they had a man in the bin, we just took control - even when we had two men in the bin later on - and I thought it was a great win at home.”

The Raiders now head to Sheffield Eagles this Sunday, but Crarey has several injury concerns.

“Nathan Mossop has stripped his bicep, so that could be 12 to 14 weeks, maybe more,” said Crarey.

“Ryan Duffy had an ankle problem and Ryan Fieldhouse went over on his ankle as well, so we had to bring them off as a precaution.

“Once again, we finished with just one substitute and it’s the pattern of how brutal this division is.

“But we’re at the back end of the season and it’s job done now.”
