ASKAM are on course for a home tie in the National Conference League Division Two play-offs following their convincing 36-8 win over West Bowling at Fallowfield Park.

The Villagers were in control for most of the 80 minutes, leading 22-0 going into the break, only to concede an unconverted try on 40 minutes.

The early exchanges were even, with Bowling almost taking a third-minute lead only for centre Adam Reardon sending an intended pass to winger Kyle Moore into touch.

Askam were first with points on the board though after Liam Saunders took a crash tackle from loose forward Gavin Wilkinson. From the play a slick pass from Adam Jackson prised open a gap for Jordan Jones to score an unconverted try.

The home lead was increased with a little piece of luck. Mark Tyson took play to the posts, but had the ball forced out hitting an opponent and into the hands of brother Kris who put the ball down and added the conversion

Bowling were down to 12 men with scrum-half Liam Coe in the bin for dissent and on 35 minutes, a high kick to the corner from Mark Tyson was parried down by a defender, allowing Brad Kavanagh to swoop and score followed by Kris Tyson converting.

Three minutes later, the Villagers were in again and it was a fine individual effort from Mark Tyson as he pulled away from a play-the-ball to weave in and out of defenders to score, with Kris again converting .

On the stroke of half-time Bowling were on the score-sheet as Coe charged down a Jackson kick to race clear.

Jackson and Russ Bolton got back to haul him down, but a quick play saw winger Nikolas Fontaine touchdown.

Four minutes into the second half Sam Dowsett stabbed the ball through the visiting defence and got the vital touch, with Tyson adding the extras.

A further four minutes later, Tom Hopkins was through a gap to score, but this time Tyson’s kick hit the post.

Bowling added a second try on 62 minutes through Coe 32-8, but were reduced to 12 men when winger Fontaine was sent off for abuse to the match official

Russ Bolton then shot away from inside his own half to make the score 36-8. The centre almost added an identical try, but on this occasion full-back Ryan Scholes was back to haul him down.

The visitors finished with 11 men when, once more, back-chatting proved costly with Coe sent off. Russ Bolton then crossed in the last minute but bounced the ball down.

A win over Leigh East this Saturday will clinch a home play-off.
