MILLOM sealed third place and a home play-off in National Conference League Division Three in emphatic style, writes Elliot Burrow.

A hat-trick from man of the match Hanley Dawson, plus two tries apiece from Joseph Wright and Rickie Donaghue helped seal a 66-0 win over Salford City Roosters.

The Woolybacks came out firing and took the lead after just three minutes when Donaghue went over, followed by Lee Postlethwaite converting.

Four minutes later, Wright was in for a second converted score and Dawson crossed for the first of his three tries on 13 minutes.

Hard running from Ethan Kelly saw him barge his way over the line, Postlethwaite again converting, to put the home side 24 points up, but Salford were able to keep them out until half time.

However, the second half was a much different story as Millom stepped on the gas.

Wright, Dawson and youngster Hadley Thompson all crossed within the first 15 minutes of the second-half with Postlethwaite converting two of them.

On 64 minutes, Postlethwaite went over for a try of his own, which he converted, and Donaghue’s second took Millom past 50 points.

Dawson grabbed his hat-trick on the 70-minute mark, with further scores coming from Kyle Evans and Ross Brookes before the final whistle to set up a home semi-final this Saturday.

In the North West Men's League Division Two, a depleted Ulverston side lost 48-6 at Oldham St Annes.
