THE final places for this year’s Evening Mail Darts Grand Finals night will be filled this evening when the Barrow area final takes place at Cloud Nine.

Sean Miles has already booked his place in the decider a week tonight after overcoming Barry Twiname in the Dalton area final a week ago.

However, Duddon Sports darter Twiname will get another opportunity to go for glory in tonight’s Barrow final after a slot opened up due to unavailability.

It was Twiname who got the Dalton area final night under way following the draw, which saw him handed a quarter-final match against team-mate Kev Beaumont.

A clash in which Twiname hit a 180 and several 100s saw him progress 3-1, followed by former champion Steve Callister breezing through his first round match 3-0 against Clarence landlord Chris Pickthall.

The next encounter saw Paul Beaumont take on Golden Ball player Les Quayle in what was a real nail-biter.

Beaumont showed some consistent high 100 scoring, but he just could not shake off Quayle who checked out a maximum 170 finish to tie the match at 2-2.

Beaumont had the darts for the final leg though and this proved decisive as he held his throw to go through 3-2.

The semi-finals draw saw several times finalist Miles take on Callister in a match that was slow starting and both players struggling to find their feet until the third leg.

Miles scored consistently with totals of 121,125,135 and Callister replied with 95,121,100.

Miles looked sharp when it come to finishing too and checked out 66, 75 to tie the match at 2-2, followed by him moving up the gears in the last leg hitting 140,140,121 en route to victory.

The second semi saw Twiname playing Paul Beaumont in what initially seemed like it was going to be a one sided a fair as the former hit the ground running in the early stages.

But Beaumont showed some grit and determination, hitting a 180 followed by a 76 finish to tie the match at 1-1.

The next two legs were shared to force a decider which saw Twiname triumph after checking out 40 on his last dart with Beaumont waiting on double 10.

A place on the Grand Finals stage awaited either Miles or Twiname, with the runner-up knowing they would at least get a second bite of the cherry.

Twiname started the final the stronger, nailing back-to-back tons, but Miles, of the Wellington in Loppergarth, got into his stride once more.

He hit two treble 20s a good few times, taking the match away from Twiname to run out a 3-1 winner.

Miles now goes through to the finals at Cloud Nine on Saturday, September 22.
