THE destiny of the Sharples Lettings Furness & District Bowling League Division One title could be decided tomorrow night at the Red River Bowling Club when second-placed Police entertain leaders King Alfred.

Mathematically, Police need to win by two points to keep their hopes alive, but in reality a minimum 10-4 score will be their aim.

Both sides cancelled each other out by claiming 11 points in the latest round of matches.

Police won at Askam, where Stuart Price was their best performer, and King Alfred triumphed at home to Dalton Cricket Club, with Dave Whitehead, 21-2, Peter Harris, 21-6 and Chris Irvine, 21-7, the men in form.

Ian Pullin won 21-3 to help Post Office to a surprise 10-5 win at Lindal, for whom eight-year-old Rueben MacPake had a fine 21-11 win.

Danny Rogers won 21-5 and John Mason 21-6 as Salthouse beat King Alfred A 12-2.

Meanwhile, despite Jordan McNamee winning 21-6, Roose Community lost 11-3 at Hawcoat Park. Bob Parkinson, 21-9, was the best home performer.

Paul Gauntlett top-scored for Walney Park as they beat Red River 9-5.

Going into the final two matches in Division Three, only one point separates leaders Kirkby and second-placed Walney Park A.

Just below the top two, Red River A are a further 13 points adrift with one game in hand.

Kirkby whitewashed West Shore A 14-0 to stay narrowly ahead of the chasing pack, with Malcolm Cleasby, 21-4, the best of six single-figure winners.

Red River A had a good week thanks to beating Walney Park A 10-4, with John Sharples and Paul Ryan winning 21-9.

West Mount A also 10-4 with Callum Sharples and John Brady carding 21-5 scores, then David Jones won 21-6 in an 11-3 success against Glaxo SC A.

Walney Park A bounced back from their earlier defeat to win 12-3 at Salthouse B, with Ryan Smith, 21-7, and John Howard, 21-9, their outstanding performers.

Adam Hudson won 21-9 to help West Mount A beat Walney Park B 11-4.

But the losers did, however, have the match’s best winner in Bill Dodding, 21-4.

Ken Robinson won 21-1 in West Mount’s 11-4 win at Roose Community B and Barrow Island A returned from Co-op SC B with a 9-6 win helped by a 21-9 from Keith Wilson.

Walney Park B beat Hawcoat Park C 9-5 to end a seven-game losing run, with Brian Usher, 21-6, Derek Artis, 21-7, and Stuart Worthington, 21-9, their leading winners

For Park C, Leonard Case produced a fine 21-8 reply.
