ETHAN Doyle and James Braithwaite will both be heading out to Holland at the end of the month after being selected to represent the region against their Dutch counterparts.

The Barrow ABC pair comprise part of a squad of eight boxers from across the North West, who will compete in the international event in Alphen aan den Rijn on Saturday, September 29.

Doyle is up against Dave Zwanenburg and Braithwaite is down to face Nabil Yousfi, and Barrow ABC head coach Jeff Moses is proud to have two members of the Brook Street gym chosen to box abroad on a high-profile amateur card.

“They selected a team from the North West and our two lads have been chosen to join the team,” said Moses, who hopes the pair will get to face the Dutch squad in a return show on these shores.

“They’re going to fly over to Holland at the end of the month, box there, fly back and hopefully it will be returned with Holland coming over to us to fight a venue in Manchester.

“It’s a different venue and it’s a high-profile venue.

“This particular show is a big thing over there.”

The card is headlined by Jack Fay (Techniques ABC) taking on Dutch champion Roy Korving, along with Andrew Stafford (Chadderton ABC) facing another national champion in Sam Wagensveld and Shaun Barbakis (Sefton ABC) taking on Levi Kroll.

Bury ABC’s Sarah Dunne is up against European champion Chelsey Heinen in the one female bout on the night, while Reece Farnhill and Joran Zarac are up against Remco Hofstede and Siraj Salim respectively.

Braithwaite was facing the prospect of having to box in the England Boxing Novice Championships the day after he fights in Holland, although that has now been averted after he gained a bye to the national quarter-finals.

He is not the only one preparing for a tilt at the Novice title, which is for those who have contested up to 10 bouts at junior level and between 10 and 20 bouts at senior level.

Ethan Holt and Lewis Simon are both involved in the divisional semi-finals a week on Sunday, while Paul O’Reilly and Tia Davies are through to the divisional finals of their respectively classes.

Meanwhile, Brandon Smith and Lewis Simon both have their first outings of the new season this Friday when they box on the card of the Techniques ABC show in Blackburn.
