BARROW AFC’s newly-formed under-21 side kicked off their maiden Lancashire County Under-21 League campaign with a 5-1 win over Ribbleton, writes Liam Bewsher.

The match on the 3G pitch at Dallam School saw goals from Kane Fitch, Callum Caldwell, Callum Fawcett and Ethan Cole, plus own goal, secure the win for the young Bluebirds side.

Delighted manager Tony Callister took to Twitter after the game, writing: “A great performance by the players. Neat and tidy football throughout. Great facility, great development league.”

Callister went on to confirm the under-21s are currently playing at Dallam’s 3G pitch, but will be playing some home fixtures at Holker Street when possible.

Barrow’s next match is a home game against Bacup Borough on Friday, September 28.

Meanwhile, the senior team are in action tomorrow when they travel to Burnley in the first round of the Lancashire Senior Cup (kick-off 2pm).

Burnley are set to field their under-23 side, which may feature the likes of Dan Agyei, while AFC manager Evatt is expected to play some first-team members, as well as mixing in some of Barrow’s under-21s who impressed on Monday evening against Ribbleton.

But, the Clarets will be without club legend Michael Duff at the helm, as he left them this week to succeed Gary Johnson as manager of Sky Bet League Two side Cheltenham Town.
