IAN Evatt has expressed his desire to get some new faces in at Barrow AFC to freshen things up following last Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at home to Dagenham & Redbridge.

Saturday’s visitors had only won one fixture before playing Evatt’s side, with that win being a 1-0 victory against basement club Braintree Town at Victoria Road. Peter Taylor’s men had also not taken a single point away from home until Saturday.

Evatt has since discussed his desire to bring new players to Holker Street, expressing frustration at his own squad’s concentration levels.

“We need players coming in, hopefully we can get some sorted coming in this week,” said Evatt. “As I’ve said, our performance against Dagenham & Redbridge is not acceptable.

“It’s happening too often now, we are consistently inconsistent and not one team has beaten us through their own good play. We are beating ourselves and making the same mistakes over and over again.

“It’s not from the lack of coaching it in training, it’s just simple concentration levels and they weren’t there against Dagenham and Redbridge and they wasn’t there against Solihull Moors either.”

When asked about positions that need to be strengthened, Evatt was very coy, insisting that he knows which positions they are. The Bluebirds manager also confirmed that any players who are likely to come in will be on loan.

There is speculation that AFC may look at another option up front with Jacob Blyth having had no pre-season due to injury, as well as not completing a full 90 minutes of competitive professional football in 18 months.

As a result, Blyth is unlikely to be given a place in the starting line-up away at Boreham Wood this Saturday.

“He’s not ready to start,” said Evatt. “We’re having to rush him along of late because we’re so light on numbers.

“I’ve got to be fair to the lad, he’s had no football throughout the whole of pre-season and he’s been thrown back into the first team, it is going to take time.

“We will build him in gradually and do right by him and the team because he’s not ready to start and play 90 minutes yet.”

One player who will definitely not be involved either is forward Raul Corriera, who has been released from his contract at his own request.
