THE new Lakeland Leisure Friday League season got under way last week, with the competition down to six teams following Navy A’s withdrawal.

In the snooker, defending champions Legion A lost a point first up as Navy B’s Billy Burns beat Dave Simpson. John Tyerman took a black ball game to beat Joe O’Leary 60-53 and Dave Wilkie pulled one back with a 52-45 win over Legion A’s captain Dave Simpson.

Legion won all of their home games against Roose Cons thanks to Ray Gardner, Mike Smith and captain Alf Carruthers, while Barrow Football Supporters Club coming away from Vickerstown CC with a 2-1 win. Adam Cook and Jimmy Christie won for BSFC and Paul Fitzpatrick took the only point for the Cricketers.

The billiards saw last year’s champions Legion carry on where they left off by beating Roose Cons 3-0. Allan Edmondson, Colin Taylor and Kevin Quinn were their victors.

Paul Kyle and Ian Large got Navy B’s wins in their 2-1 victory over Legion A, who replied through Steve Hetherington, and BSFC won 3-0 against Vickerstown thanks to Denis Plant, Alan Bonner and Jimmy Wilson winning games which went to the wire.

Navy B came back from 3-0 down to beat Legion A 4-3 in the darts, with Legion beating Roose by the same scoreline.

Vickerstown’s Brian Tucker had the best knock-up of the night with 111 as his side beat BSFC 4-3 as well.

Navy B won the Welsh don 7-4, Legion and Roose drew 5-5 and Vickerstown beat BSFC 7-3.

Treble winners in week one were Wilkie (snooker, darts and Welsh don), Fitzpatrick and Taylor (both billiards, darts and Welsh don).
