TRYING TIMES: Adam Jackson will be in the Barrow Island Under-16s squad at Craven Park on Monday

ON Monday, Craven Park will be taken over by the best of the area’s junior rugby league talent.

Under-12s, under-14s and under-16s sides will battle it out for the Barrow and District KO Cups, with the following players stepping out onto the turf.

UNDER-12s

ULVERSTON

CALLUM MacDougal (Full-back): A solid performer all season and defensively sound. Always looking to join the line in attack and create the extra man.

Connor Saunders (Winger): Smallest player in the side but stands his ground well in defence. A good positional player who likes to get involved.

Brad Joy (Centre): Very fast with great footwork. A big powerful lad who adds a lot to the side both in defence and attack.

Ryan John (Centre): Joker of the team and has been at Ulverston since under-eights. A good defender and knows how to score. Very popular team player.

Manat Pathmasing (Winger): Newcomer to the game but in the side every week. A small guy with a lion’s heart. Tackles well above his weight and very fast.

James Porter (Stand-off): The team’s engine room. Big powerful lad who likes to take on the line and create problems for the defenders. Works hard in defence.

Jake Spedding (Scrum Half): A very clever player with great vision. Has good footwork and an excellent passing game. Works very hard around the ruck.

Will Maher (Prop): First season in rugby, gives an instant physical presence. Neat and tidy in defence and has good footwork. Takes a lot of stopping.

Tom Wilkinson (Hooker): Regarded as the best hooker in the league. Very strong in defence and a natural instinct going forward. Deceptively fast.

Ryan Steel (Prop): A good solid prop. Will stand his ground well in defence and is always willing to work. Enjoys his rugby and plays with a smile on his face.

Shane Toal (Second Row): Can play everywhere in the pack but having a great season in the second row. Will take the ball in all day and always makes yards. Can come up with some big hits.

Danny Crabtree (Second Row): Mr Dependable. Works very hard in defence, always there to clean up any mistakes and makes very few of his own. Likes to be in the action, a good team player.

Joe Hambley (Loose Forward): Always gives 100 per cent. Has the pace and power to score from anywhere on the pitch. Likes to run out wide and Will love the space at Craven Park.

Callum Edwards: Equally at home in the pack or outside backs. Loves to get his hands on the ball and take on the defence. On his day can mix it with the best in defence or attack.

Ryan Lancaster: New to the game this season but making great progress. Could easily be in the starting 13 on the day. Strong going forward and doesn’t mind getting his hands dirty in defence.

Bobby Benson: The youngest of the forwards. Has held his own with the big guys this season. Will still be at the U12s next year and should make a big impact.

Ben Jenkins: Another of the younger lads who has stood up well this season. Has a good solid defence and given space can make good yards. Another big player for next season’s U12s.

WALNEY

Will Tyson (Full-back): First year at full-back, fitted in comfortably with good hands, a keen eye for the gaps, with more than enough pace. His covering tackles saves the loss of many points and loves to come forward utilising his awesome pace.

Jordan Rosconie (Winger): A young player who loves to be involved, has good pace and is a real team player. Will do what is asked and works hard in defence.

Ryan Elliott (Winger): One of the younger ones, with ample pace and a great prospect. Always willing to take the ball forward, utilising his great pace.

Bradley Russell (Winger): A centre with good hands and vision, strong going forward and works well with his team-mates. A real spoiler to the other team’s game plan with his constant hard work.

Paul Wilkes (Centre): A straight up and down player, strong and confident and loves to get into the thick of it. A player showing great potential.

Daniel Scott (Centre): Another young player but mature in his tackling and defence. Works hard and always looks for opportunities to take the ball forward.

Daniel Fisher (Stand-off): Has made this position his own, tackling above his size but never thinks twice or takes a backward step. Pace and fitness an asset to the side.

Dean Litherland (Scrum Half): Great hands and feet with bags of ability, loves to go forward and be involved in the action. His mind is one step ahead of the play all the time and can pin teams back with great kicking ability.

Thomas Cornthwaite (Prop): An intelligent player with bags of ability and loves a good hard contest. Constantly drives forward with real pace.

Kieron Rodgers (Prop): Big strong player willing to do the hard yards, can make a real impact when given the opportunity.

Jack Salmon (Prop): Another one of the younger end with bags of enthusiasm and willingness to work hard, loves to have ball in hand, making the best use of his size.

Jordan Belcher (Prop): Strong and fast and drives the team forward with offload skills. Defensively has little weakness.

Daniel Johnson (Second Row): Fierce, strong, fast and loves to tackle. Has come on this year and a handful for anyone.

Daniel Warmsley (Second Row): Has pace in abundance and can take advantage of open space. Tackles well with great technique, always in support.

Ryan McMahon (Hooker/Centre/Winger): A difficult player to catch and contain. Good feet and hands and can play in various positions with equal ability.

Jack Malone (Hooker): The smallest of the team, but not in enthusiasm or ability. A cunning player with good hands and a vision to find the gaps, another one who will develop in time – look out Kieran Cunningham.

Ethan Duke (Hooker): Calm and reliable with great passing ability. Keeps the team going forward and never takes a backward step in the tackle, another good prospect for the future.

Jake Kendall (Loose Forward): A player with real ability to tackle and read the game. Gets himself involved in all plays and will provide support to the team all day with a superb level of fitness and willingness.

UNDER-14s

WALNEY

George Scott (Fullback/Winger): Dedicated lad, great under the high ball and top last line of defence.

Jack Rushton (Fullback/Centre): Come on in leaps and bounds. Returns the ball well, great footwork, hard as nails.

Martin Williams (Winger): Lower age group player, safe under high ball and good try scorer.

Eddie Mancini (Centre/Wing): Very pacy player with great footwork and acceleration off the mark.

Jordan Staffieri (Centre): Never misses training, great ball skills and copybook tackler.

Ethan Davies (Centre/Second Row): Lanky and deceptively pacey centre, equally at home in the forwards.

Duane Parsons (Centre/Winger): New to the game but great potential, very fast and natural big hitter in defence.

Ben Pearson (Winger): Safe and steady winger with safe hands and pace.

Matthew Elliot (Scrum Half): Great eye for a gap acceleration, good defender and great kicker, also top goal kicker.

Aaron Booth (Stand-off): Captain of the team and good organiser, makes the team tick. Great ball skills and pace to burn.

Andrew Thompson (Prop/Second Row): Prefers prop but fast enough to play in the back row, great advantage line runner and never takes a backward step.

Ryan Maxwell (Prop/Second Row): Match winner on his day, very unorthodox but difficult to bring down. Very tough and will run all day.

Adam Thake (Hooker/Loose Forward): Could play anywhere, fit as a fiddle, hard as nails and will cover every blade of grass. Walney’s pack leader.

George Nichols (Hooker): Very slick passer from the play-the-ball, reads the game well and good support player, bottom age group player.

Luke Stoker (Second Row): Bottom end forward but never shirks in attack or defence. Will scatter defences next year.

Ryan Thomas (Second Row): Very aggressive with good pace for a forward, prefers it when the going gets tough.

Matthew Holmes (Second Row): Runs great lines in attack and looks for the big hit in defence. Will take hits all day.

Daniel Hill (Prop): Only played a few games but great pace for a big lad and strong as a bull. Always makes yards.

Tom Heighton (Prop): Hard-running prop with good offload and quick play-the-ball.

Scott Hunter (Prop): Only small for a prop but tough as teak and always runs straight and hard.

Elliot Grafton (Winger): New to the game but good prospect, big fast lad with safe hands.

Kristian Holmes (Utility player): Quick enough for the backs and big and tough enough for the forwards. Puts himself about, especially in defence.

BARROW ISLAND

Ryan Barker: Younger end of the age group, a big prop who loves running at the opposition. Under-13s Service area rep.

Kyle Brown (Hooker/Scrum Half): Small and deceptive with a big heart. Another year at this age group. Good distribution.

Luke Cresswell (Stand-off/Full-back): A versatile player with good hands and quick feet. Still under-14s next season.

Ben Garner: A quick centre who can break a defence with his powerful runs. Good in defence and attack. Plays at service area, county and national levels. Would be the first on the field except he spends too long doing his hair.

Karl Gilmour: A utility player who had a valuable turn of pace. Younger end of the age group. Small in stature, big heart.

Andy Graham (Centre): Keen as mustard, a player with tremendous tackling ability and enjoys running at the opposition.

Brad Marwood (Scrum Half/Stand-off): On-field general who can pick the right pass at the right time. Tactically aware, good kicker. Very strong desire to succeed. Under-14s service area rep.

Jacob McParland: Utility player, happy as a forward or a back. New to the game, keen and learning fast.

Niall Miller (Full-back): Clears his line well, safe under the high ball and tactically sound. Good finisher. Under-14s service area and Cumbria rep. Earns pocket money headlining at the house of horrors.

Damien Minnican (Second Row): Strong runner and stronger desire to cross the line. Good support player. Under-14s Service area rep.

Toby Mowat (Hooker/Stand-off): A keen sportsman on many fronts. Good going forward and excellent ball distribution. Can kick tactically and for goal. He gives no quarter to forwards or backs when defending. Under-13s service area rep.

Zak Parker (Winger): Good finisher with a good turn of speed. Sure of his role in the team even though he’s new to the game.

Greg Richards: Hard running second row, good support player with a strong desire to break the opposition line. Hard working and reliable. Under-13s service area representative.

Jake Rigg (Winger): A quick lad who knows where the try line is and how to cross it. Younger end of the age group.

Patty Sarmiento: Big prop, making excellent progress in his first season until he injured his collar bone. Great attitude and a surprising turn of pace for a big guy. Under-14s service area representative.

Lewis Sayle: Utility player who makes himself busy on the field. Strong desire to support his team-mates. Doesn’t let the size of the opposition bother him. Gets stuck in.

Perry Singleton (Captain/Loose Forward): Tactically excellent and good leader. Good in attack, with the ball and supporting. Faultless defence. Under-14s Service area and Cumbria representative.

Harry Spiers (Stand-off): Been unlucky with injuries this season but when he plays he makes a positive impact. Good ball distributor and support player. Under-14s Service area rep.

Josh Vial: Big prop who loves to defend and can break a defence with his powerful runs. The leader of the pack, sets the example all forwards should follow. Under-14s service area and Cumbria representative. Needs to buy a watch.

Jake Vial: Younger brother of Josh. Follows his brother’s example. Runs and tackles hard. Under-13s service area rep. Needs to buy a calendar.

Taylor Woodend (Prop/Second Row): Works hard in defence and attack. Improving with each game.

Johnny Peacock (Loose Forward/Centre): Hard tackling, hard running player, who makes an impact every game. Under-14s service area honours this season. Receives a lot of female attention, can only be attributed to sympathy.

Ben Wheeler (Winger/Centre): Pace to burn and astounding stamina. An excellent finisher and a hard worker. Impressed enough to gain service area honours at under-14s level.

UNDER-16s

WALNEY

Tom Lamb: Solid defender with an eye for the gap, this season’s top try scorer.

Blaine Devlin: Strong defender, elusive runner, safe under the high ball.

James Duerden: Gives 110 per cent every game, improves year on year, never takes a backward step.

Tom Holmes: Good ball handler, can open up the defence with clever passes, solid in defence.

Joe Donohue: Excellent tackler, fast strong runner, improving each season.

Daniel O’Neill: Elusive runner with the potential to win matches, good defence and attack skills.

Russell Bolton: Superb forward runner, strong in defence, makes the team tick.

Mike Parkin: Strong runner with good hands, solid in defence.

Ben Fox: Deceptive half-back who tackles well above his weight.

Adam Pearson: Mr Reliable, works hard in defence and attack, earns hard yards.

Ben Skelton: Powerful forward with an eye for the gap, never takes a backward step.

Jonny Simpson: The youngster of the team, new to the squad. Good in defence, getting better all the time.

Callum Kidson: Having an outstanding season, works hard in defence and attack.

John Donnon: Another newcomer, big powerful forward.

Steven Wilson: First season, exceptionally fast runner in open play.

Jamie Wager: Strong forward, solid in defence, good in attack, deceptive runner.

BARROW ISLAND

Connor Pearce (Full-back/winger): Team captain. Great speed and agility which has brought about plenty of tries. Leads the team well.

Callum Liddicott (Loose Forward/Centre): A great versatile player. Sound defender with excellent handling skills which are put down to his goalkeeping qualities.

Ryan Baines (Hooker/Scrum Half): Great handling skills complemented by superb vision. Runs well from dummy half to exploit weak defences.

Dave Gilmour (Prop/Second Row): Fantastic forward qualities. Runs hard, tackles hard and pushes himself to the limit. A great season and a large female following.

Karl Harwood (Prop/Second Row): Great wide runner who has worked hard on his fitness to improve his defensive qualities. Scores plenty of tries.

Josh Phifer (Prop/Second Row): Tough as granite and strong as a bull. Unsung hero of the team who always lifts the players around him.

Scott Hadwin (Second Row/Loose Forward): Versatile player who has made prop his own. Never stops running and tackling. One of the fittest players.

Chris Burns (Centre/Loose Forward): Another great versatile player. Started the season very strongly, a broken collar bone put him back but now back to fitness.

Ben Cooke (Prop/Second Row): Big strong lad who has a great turn of pace. Injury has hindered his game time but a great squad player.

Ryan Kay (Winger/Second Row): Has not played the game long but development has been fantastic. A valuable squad member.

Tom Brannan (Winger/Centre): All-round qualities are excellent. Has great determination and commitment which are a credit to himself. Star of the season.

Blake Parsons (Winger/Full-back): A great utility back whose attitude, commitment and courage are second-to-none. Valuable squad member.

Ryan Shaw (Scrum Half/Stand-off): An exciting talent. Organisational skill and kicking game have improved. Strengths are his speed and agility.

Brad Singleton (Prop/Second Row): Island’s James Peacock. Tough, runs great lines, puts in some great hits and scores plenty of tries. Leads the pack.

Will Case (Winger/Centre): A great utility player who has made the wing position his own. Excellent defender who gains us great yards running from dummy half.

Jason Richards (Centre/Second Row): Another great utility player who has slotted into the centre position with great effect. Speed and fitness are his strengths.

Adam Jackson (Standoff/Loose Forward): Aanother exciting talent. From the pivot position his organisational skill and kicking game are exceptional. The creator of most of our tries.

Sam Dowsett (Hooker/Scrum-half): A fantastic utility player who excels at hooker or scrum-half. Has been a great squad player with great heart.

Steven Beck (Prop/Second Row): First season and has improved immensely. An important squad player who has rotated well when called on.

Neil Shaw (Head Coach): Coached most of the team for a number of years after playing professional rugby with Barrow, Workington and Hull.

Mark Richards (Ass Coach): Inexperience in the game more than made up for with enthusiasm and commitment to the team. His company GASMARK are also the team sponsor.
