A BIG field has been entered for the Coppermines Grizedale Stages Rally on Saturday.

A total of 89 cars will make up the field who will be dashing round Grizedale Forest and over Broughton Moor throughout the day.
Around 5,000 spectators are expected in the forest for the event, with the first cars due at around 9.20am for the morning stages and 1.20pm for the afternoon stages.
Clerk of the course, Graham Parker, said: “The Coppermines Grizedale Stages Rally is one of the most popular events in the British Rally driving calendar and again this year we have attracted many of the top drivers.
“Right from the start of the course in Coniston village and through Grizedale Forest the course has a reputation for being one of the most challenging and exciting courses in the country.”
The event is again being sponsored by Coppermines and Lakes Cottages, who have also provided free accommodation for many of the race officials and marshalls.
The sponsors will have a special interest in local driver Dave Shuttleworth – who will in car number three – having been his main sponsor for the past year.
Shuttleworth, who lives and works in Grizedale for the Forestry Commission, finished second with co-driver Simon Megaw last year and is hoping for another high placing this time round.
The 34-year-old said: “I am really looking forward to the rally this year.
“Our sponsorship deal has allowed us to do a tremendous amount of the work on the car and we are ready ahead of schedule.
“It is great that Simon is returning from Ireland and we are more determined than ever to win.”
Coppermines owner Philip Johnston added: “We are delighted to continue to support this years Grizedale Stages.
“It is a great boost to the local economy bringing in thousands of people and it is a thrilling event for spectators.
“We will certainly be on the trackside on Saturday to support Dave Shuttleworth. We are proud to sponsor the local favourite and I am sure Dave has the skill and courage to win.”
Parking for spectators is available at sites throughout Grizedale Forest and costs £5, which includes a copy of the programme.
