Dalton build on advantage with a Cons job

THE leading pack in Division Two of the South Lakeland Financial Consultants, Furness and District Bowling League were again in good winning form.

Table-toppers Dalton CC travelled the short distance to play lowly Dalton Cons B and returned 13-2 victors.

The home side’s points came from Alan Salisbury and John Hamilton, while best for the cricketers were John Lindsay, 21-9, Dave Kent, 21-6, Bryan Woodburn, 21-4, Roy Whatley, 21-2, and Barry Wearing.

Askam remain unbeaten at home following their 10-4 victory over Co-op, with oldies Peter Richards, Ray Chapples and Jim Delaney, 21-8, and youngster Gareth Knowles, 21-9 in form.

Leading the way for the visitors were Dave Wilson, Alec Thompson and Frank Corkill, both 21-8.

Kirkby remain in third place after their 13-1 victory over Newdale, half the side scoring single-figure wins.

The big winners were Colin Johnson, Brian Seddon, Paul Tyson, Graham Preston, Ian Parkinson and Shaun Taylor, with the visitors’ lone point scored by Keith Thompson.

Police are another side who are unbeaten at home.

This week they defeated Barrow Island 11-3, with their leading wins scored by Mike Simpson, Bert Slater, Alan Crighton, Bob Clegg and Gary Bleasdale.

The Islanders’ points were scored by Don Logan, Eddie Harkins and John Hulston.

Roose Cons B, with good wins coming from Ken Delves, Ron Nicholson, Brian Taylor and Bill Martindale, shared the games with Walney Park.

But fine wins from Ian Fairclough, Jim Wood, Jim Elliott, 21-9 and Terry Ducie, 21-8, meant the park gained the aggregate points and the game 9-6.

In Division Three, West Shore lead the table by 13 points over West Mount A, followed by Glaxo A, a further two points behind, the two closing sides having games in hand.

This week the leaders travelled to play Barrow Island A and returned 10-5 victors.

In form for the home side were Dave Leece, Tom Elliott and – on one of his rare appearances – Nick Carson.

The old hands of Geoff Batte, 21-8, Ken Murdoch, 21-9, Pat Fogarty and Albert Fisher did well for the leaders.

West Mount A moved closer to the leaders after their excellent 12-2 win over Police A, which included five excellent single-figure wins from Mike Grainger, 21-6, Mike Pritchard, 21-7, Steve Hocknell, Mike Hodgson and Brian Sharp, all 21-9.

Eric Wearing and Peter Classic replied for the bobbies.

Co-op A shared the games and took the aggregate points by one chalk against Glaxo A to win 8-6.

In form for the home side were Keith Hurley, 21-7, Jack Bannister, Ken Stirzaker and Alf Woolveridge, as were Rod Troughton, 21-9, Eric Phizacklea and the Clark family, well led by dad Paul, for Glaxo.

Graham Rawley, Brian McGrevey and Bill Johnson led the way for King Alf B in their 11-4 defeat at the hands of Hawcoat Park B, whose leading wins came from Tom Fereday, 21-5, Derek Martin, 21-2, Jeff Davies, Mike Muldoon and Jimmy Addison.

West Shore A shared the games with Askam A. Cameron Doyle, 21-5, Paddy Wilson and Don White were best for the home side, with the village side taking the aggregate points and the game 9-6 due to good wins by Brian Scudamore, Ralph Davies, 21-7, Ray Kirkby, 21-9, and Derek Porter.

Walney Park A, with Paul Hewitson, 21-8, Robert Repton and Frank Turner in good form, were defeated 10-5 at home by West Mount B, a result that gave the Abbey Road side its first away win.

In form for the visitors were Colin Taylor, 21-6, Alan Hill, 21-5, Bill Heaton, Ken Horner and Rod Bedgar.

In Division One, King Alf lead the table by 22 points from Hawcoat Park and 25 from Lindal, but the works side have two games in hand and the village side one.

This week the leaders travelled to play Barrow Park and had an easy 13-2 victory.

Erroll Wall and John Harris scored the park’s points, while leading the way for the leaders were Andy Thornton, 21-3, Dave Whitehead, 21-6, Peter Roberts, Tony Whitehouse, Jeff Hinde and Peter Harris.

Hawcoat Park kept in touch with the leaders, defeating Glaxo 13-1.

Roy Moxham, 21-2, Eddie France, 21-7, Geoff Maudsley, 21-6, Dave Hird, 21-8, Bill McLaughlin, Tony Kneale and Mike Procter led the way, with Dick Orrell scoring his side’s lone point.

Jack Kolbe, Ian Thompson and John Green were the pick of North Scale’s winners in their 11-4 home defeat by the in-form Roose Cons.

Roose’s leading wins came from Chris Corkill, 21-8, Kevin Boyd, 21-9, Graham Gedling and Bill Burgess.

King Alf A defeated Dalton Cons A 11-3, a result that leaves the Cons in a relegation spot. Good single-figure wins for the Walney side came from skipper Joe Mcdonald, 21-5, Ray Holmes, 21-6, Steve Hogg, 21-7, John Clarke, 21-3, and Roly Price. Mark Coulter, Dick Wearing and Ron Barclay scored for the Cons.

Salthouse, with Joe Wardman, 21-8, Steven Howarth and Ron Burley, both 21-9, Stan Edmondson and Bill Thompson in good form, defeated Institute 9-5.

Paul Millburn, 21-8, Roger Barrow and Bob Thorpe were best for the Walney side.

Post Office beat Hawcoat Park A, a result that keeps the works side in a relegation spot.

Skipper Martin Lavender, 21-6, led by example for the postmen, well supported by Stu Harrison, 21-7, Eddie Backhouse, 21-8, Alf Oldfield and Barry Woodall. The visitors’ points were scored by Roy Twiname, Jack Curphey, Shaun Murray and – at last – Wilf Heywood.

West Mount played two games on Saturday with mixed results (this could be an idea for other clubs with games to rearrange), beaten 11-4 by Barrow Park and defeating Dalton Cons 13-2.

Double wins were scored by James Clarke, Bill Millard, Mark Howard and Steve Mellor.

The Cons’ points were scored by Garry Hall and young David Jones, while best for the park were Bob Parkinson, Jimmy Rowan, Hughie Harris, 21-7, and John Harris (Jnr), 21-3.
