MILLOM got off to a disappointing start to the season, mainly due to having eight regulars missing.
As early as the third minute, the home side went ahead with a Paul Evans penalty but this was quickly wiped out with a converted try.
Millom were taking the game to the Dewsbury outfit and Nathan Mossop restored the lead in the 20th minute with a try that Evans converted, 8-6.
The lead was short-lived, however, when a poor pass was intercepted and the visitors were back in front at 12-8.
On 33 minutes Millom were back level when quick passing saw Brad Crellin put veteran forward Phil Jackson over in the corner to go in at half-time level at 12-12.
Five minutes into the second half, the visitors scored a disputed try and the home side found themselves 18 points in arrears when Shaw Cross scored two converted tries.
A good break by Nathan Mossop saw Jackson go in for his second try and good play by the lively Midge Dixon and Evans saw Graham Lupton go in at the posts to put the Maroons back in the game at 30-24.
Dixon went over for a try, but, to everyone’s amazement, the referee disallowed it for alleged obstruction. Two penalties in the closing minutes saw a final score of 34-24.
Jackson and Graham Lupton received the two man-of-the-match awards.
