Away day delight for five top flight sides

BOWLS

AWAY teams came out on top in the latest round of games in division one of the South Lakeland Financial Consultants Furness and District Bowling League.

Of the seven top-flight games played, five were won by visiting sides.

The only to games to end in home wins were both on Walney – at Institute and Post Office.

The biggest away win came at Salthouse, where visitors King Alfred A came away 11-4 victors.

Allan Wright, 21-9, Chris Whitehouse, John Clarke and Joe McDonald shone for King Alfred A, while Alan Asbury 21-9, Bill Thompson, Danny Rogers and Iain Moore scored the home side’s points.

Hawcoat Park increased their lead at the top following a 10-5 victory at early pacesetters Roose Cons.

Eddie and Ian France, Roy and Tonie Moxham were in good form for the pole sitters.

Dalton Cons were another team to win on the road, with a 10-5 victory at Glaxo.

Keith Banks, Mark Edmondson, Davey Jones, 21-6 and Mike Keen all supped victory champagne for Dalton Cons. Terry Wright, Ian McCartney and Dick Orrell played well for the hosts.

Visitors Lindal shared the points at King Alfred, winning the aggregate points by two chalks and the game 9-6.

Best for Lindal were Simon Perry, 21-4 and Daniel Smith, while Mark Walton, Alan Fay and Steve Fullard did well for King Alfred.

Barrow Park won 10-5 at Hawcoat Park A, with Erroll Wall, Hughie Harris, Brian Beard, John Harris, 21-8 and Gary Harris, 21-9, showing good form for the visitors. Shaun Murray, 21-1, George McFarlane, 21-3 and Joe Knight were the pick of the home side’s winners.

Post Office had an excellent 13-1 home win over Dalton Cons A, dropping only three chalks during the game.

Skipper Martin Lavender, 21-9, led by example, well supported by Mike Fieldhouse 21-7. Other good wins were recorded by Andy Boardman, Alf Oldfield, Barry Woodall and Ian Pullin. Darren Woodend scored the Cons’ lone point.

Fellow home winners Institute beat North Scale 9-5 in a Walney derby. In form for the club side were Matt McKellar, 21-14, Keith Dixon, John Whittall and Roger Barrow. Steve Porter, Les Johnson and Jack Charnley did well for the visitors.

It was a completely different story in Division Two, where all but one game resulted in home wins.

Leading the way were Lindal A, who defeated Newdale 13-1. The best of Lindal’s wins came from Ray Farren and Paul Bennett, both 21-5, Alec Spelman, 21-9, Chas Crellin, 21-8, Brian Andrews and Kevin Morrall. John Fielding, 21-9, saved his side from a whitewash.

Kirkby’s good home form continued with and 11-3 victory over Roose Cons A. Brian Seddon and Alan Barton, both 21-9, were triumphant. The visitors’ points were scored by Ray Fisher, Bill Bowes and Jack Crabtree.

Askam dropped to second in the table despite a 10-4 victory over Red River.

The old men of the team, Ray Chapples and Ron Kitchen, both 21-5, led the way, well supported by Ken Knowles 21-7, Chris Atkinson 21-8, Kevin Radford 21-9 and Dave Kavanagh.

Replacing them at the top is Dalton Cricket, who won 12-3 at Kings Head.

Mick Regan, 21-6, Bryan Woodburn, 21-7, Bob Lindsay, Stan Jones and Keith Alexander all shone for the Cricketers.

Police defeated Walney Park 10-4. Skipper Mike SImpson, 21-7, was in top form, with other good wins coming from Bob Clegg, Roly West, both 21-9, Ian McBride and Colin Towers.

Bottom side Dalton Cons B moved nearer the sides above them with a 9-5 victory over Roose Cons B.

Cons’ leading wins were scored by Kevin Nicholson, 21-8, Derek Birbeck, Derek Buck and Alan Salisbury.

Co-op shared the games with Barrow Island, taking the aggregate points and the game 8-6 thanks to good wins by Dave Wilson, Gordon Macgregor and Alan Turner.

Division three leaders Glaxo A were without a game, allowing Hawcoat Park B and West Mount A the opportunity to close the gap at the top.

And it was Hawcoat Park B who had the biggest win in the division, 13-1 over North Scale A. Leading wins came via Colin Knipe, 21-6, John Lavender, 21-8, Mike Muldoon, 21-5 and Andy McNicol, 21-7.

West Mount A had an excellent 12-2 victory over Co-op A. Mike Hodgson 21-5 was in excellent form for the home side, with other good wins scored by Steve Hocknell, Mike Pritchard, Kevin Quinn and Colin Taylor.

West Shore A are having their best start to a season for a number of years, and won again, 10-4 over West Mount B.

Evergreen Don White, 21-6 and young Jamie Boardman, 21-9, Graham Pritchard, Bobby Wadsworth and Ray Sutherland bowled excellently for West Shore A.

Barrow Island A had a comfortable 9-5 victory over Askam A, with good single wins scored by Tom Elliott, 21-8, Mike Bram, 21-5, John Heads, 21-7 and Stan Gibbons.

King Alfred B also won 9-another 5, against second in the table West Shore. Bill Johnson, Martin Clegg, Steve Belcher and Barney Cleasby were all on song for the pub side.

Police A dished out an 11-4 beating to Walney Park A. Ritchie Sharples, 21-2, Keith Churchman, 21-7, Paul Fieldhouse and Dave Edwards shone for the Bobbies.
