Smiths legend Johnny Marr praises Twitterband
Smiths legend Johnny Marr has given his backing to a Twitter project which brought together a band online to record a charity single.
Tw1tterband involved band members, singers and producers collaborating via Twitter to produce a cover version of the Smiths' Please Please Please.
The band members then recorded their bit of the song in their “studios” aka kitchen, garage, lounge etc. The audio files were shared online so the Producer could pick them up to start mixing them together - none of the band members have got together during the project.
Darren McSweeney, of Barrow, volunteered to produce the video and spent some late nights creating it.
“As I had a week off work, I offered my services to Tw1tterband - they were looking for somebody to sort a video out that involved pictures sent in from Twitter users.
“The band were assembled in tw1tterband fashion, never actually meeting, co-ordinating the whole recording via Twitter.
I spent a good few late nights, running the submitted images through Photoshop, turning them into “Polaroids” and then mashing it all up into a gentle slideshow with Pinnacle studio.”
Johnny Marr has sent a message of support – via Twitter of course – to say: “@tw1tterband OK everybody on Twitterband. Nice job. I'm touched. Johnny.”

I really like the female vocal - obviously an experienced, trained singer. The choir are something else and put this track right up there with the original. It's a very tight mix for a production recorded separately. An excellent cover - I can see why Marr would be impressed.
