JAIL: Heather McPherson

The 39-year-old was arrested following the drugs raid and pleaded guilty in June to supplying both class A and class B drugs.

She was sentenced to a year in prison at Preston Crown Court on Friday.

Police found 135 grams of amphetamine and around £1,400-worth of ecstasy pills during the raid. The operation was based on police intelligence.

Sergeant Rachel Jones, who is based at Millom police station, said: “McPherson was arrested and subsequently charged after police officers from Millom carried out a successful drugs warrant based on intelligence gathered by our officers.

“The sentence shows how committed police and the courts are to tackling drug supply in Cumbria.

“We would urge members of the public to continue reporting any individuals involved in drugs supply to us so that we can enforce the law robustly, and continue to bring offenders to justice. Anyone with information can contact their local police team on 0845 33 00 247, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Millom mayor, councillor Pauline Altree, spoke of her sadness about the case.

“I think it is a sad reflection of society when young people have to resort to having to take drugs and it brings the town down and lowers the tone.

“I do think jail is the answer and hopefully it gets people off drugs and helps them in the long run.

“It is a terribly sad thing.”
