Sales are lighting up for Workington special effects firm

A special effects company from Workington is seeing business boom overseas as a result of its high-tech equipment.

Extreme FX, of New Yard, Clay Flatts, was launched five years ago by Workington man Lee Dobinson, 29.

The former DJ and club promoter has seen his firm go from strength to strength and three months ago moved to larger premises at Clay Flatts from its base at Lillyhall.

The company specialises in party and event equipment and hire, from foam machines, to UV paint parties and even LED robot suits.

Mr Dobinson said sales were booming across Europe and the USA.

“Our products come from China with the latest specifications and are sold to our clients all over the world,” he said.

“We have one of the widest range of nightclub and event supplies and supply some of the largest clubbing capitals in the world.”

Mr Dobinson said a distribution centre had even been set in a bid to fulfil demand in Lebanon.

Two years ago he set up a UV paint supplies division, PaintGlow, which has become one of the largest paint party suppliers in the UK and USA.

He said: “We got the idea from America where UV paint parties were starting to become popular.

“It is a multi-million dollar industry over there so we sourced products and equipment and went over there and sold it to nightclubs and events.”

Mr Dobinson, who employs seven staff, said the company’s nightclub gadgets included an LED robot suit and a seven foot high special effects Transformers robot, due to arrive from China in the next few weeks.

He added: “Our future hopefully holds more progression including our own manufacturing facilities and we aim to target the likes of X Factor-style shows and concerts.”
