WINGER Lee Haney will undergo a scan on his injured knee tomorrow to see how long he is likely to be out of action for Barrow Raiders.

The 24-year-old went down hard in a tackle in the 42-12 defeat at Hunslet Hawks on Sunday and spent much of that night in hospital.

The initial prognosis from doctors is that he has damaged his cartilage, with club physios due to assess the problem further before he has a scan at Furness General Hospital tomorrow.

Coach Darren Holt will be waiting on the result as he plans ahead for Barrow’s first home game of the season against Doncaster on Sunday.

He said: “Lee has been to see a doctor. He had to go up and be seen, because the sooner he goes in to see them, the sooner he could be referred to a consultant.

“The initial assessment is that it might be ligament damage, but the physios thought it might be cartilage.

“You don’t know with these things until you have had the scan.

“The scan will be later on this week because he has already been up there.

“What is concrete is that he has done something bad, but they just don’t know what it is yet.

“The physio staff will assess him as well and have a better idea than on the day of the game, so they might be able to make a more accurate assessment.”

Haney was the only Barrow player to pick up an injury at Hunslet – apart from ‘dented pride’ said Holt – with Ruairi McGoff (knee), Jamie Butler (wrist), Nathan Mossop (knee), Tom Brannon (hamstring) and Jack Spencer (foot) all on the road to recovery.

Brannon would be one option to step in for Haney on the wing, along with Mike Backhouse, while James Nixon’s future remains unclear as he takes time to decide whether to carry on playing at Craven Park.

Adam Clay, who scored a try on his competitive debut for Raiders at the South Leeds, is set to continue on the other flank.

l Barrow Raiders are offering tickets to see the Rugby League World Cup final and one of the quarter-finals in a special deal.

The club have tickets for the Old Trafford showpiece on Saturday, November 30, and the third quarter-final at Wigan, on Saturday, November 16, in a package – also including coach travel and three polo shirts from England, New Zealand and Australia.

The cost is £100 for adults and £90 for concessions, with a £20 deposit needed.
