Raiders reshuffle behind scenes

HAVING spent a week recruiting on-the-field talent, Barrow Raiders have made two appointments off it, writes PAUL TURNER.

Director Dave Sear is the club's new vice-chairman - acting as number two to Des Johnston - while Ulverstonian John Thomason is the new strategic partnerships manager.

While Sear will be involved in the day-to-day running of the club, helping to ensure everything runs smoothly, Thomason will work with the newly-established Craven Park Community Pathways Trust (CP2) to develop Barrow Raiders in the wider community.

Sear said of his appointment: “I am honoured to be asked to do the job.

“Tony Colyer is a very hard act to follow, however I will do my best to live up to the standards he has set.”

The appointment of the 31-year-old Thomason is part of a bigger effort on the part of the club to develop off the field as they progress on it.

Director Jon Livesey, who was instrumental in bringing him to the club from Swinton Lions, said: “I view this as one of the best signings Barrow have made.

“John has a proven track record, he will be instrumental in driving both the club and CP2 forwards as we seek to extend our role in the community.

“The signings that Des has made shows that the club wants to go forward on the field. The appointment of John shows we are determined to make significant progress off the field as well.”

Thomason added: “I am keen to foster relations with supporters, the amateur game and the wider Furness community and want to help Des and the board build a club that the area can continue to be proud of.”

l The Raiders Bar will be open on Saturday to screen the Super League Grand Final between St Helens and Leeds. The bar will be open 30 minutes before kick-off.
