Cassidy keen to stay at Raiders
Last updated 12:54, Tuesday, 19 August 2008
VETERAN Raiders forward Mick Cassidy wants to stay at Craven Park, writes PAUL TURNER.
And the former Great Britain international is keen to stay on when the National League Two campaign comes to an end.
Cassidy said: “My name is certainly in the ring to stay at Barrow.
“In what kind of coaching capacity I don’t know, whether it be on the conditioning side or as assistant coach.
“I would love that opportunity.”
The situation at Raiders is currently up in the air, with promotion still undecided.
But victory at Swinton on Saturday would – barring a mathematical miracle – seal the deal and allow Cassidy to finalise arrangements for his future, having enjoyed his role as conditioning coach this season.
He added: “To get the opportunity to work on some of my ideas this year at Barrow has been good and hopefully it has done the trick and helped out a lot of lads and helped our performances.
“To get the chance to do it on more of a full-time basis would be fantastic.”
• The Raiders Bar will be open on Thursday to show the Gateshead v Doncaster game. The bar will open at 7pm for a 7.30pm kick-off and it will be £1.50 a pint until the first try.
• Askam RL are preparing to start life in the Barrow and District League but are still searching for a new head coach following the resignation of Tammy Tyson. Anyone interested in the position should contact chairman Colin Blythe on 07738 615768.
