COME rain or shine – and it has mostly been the former so far this pre-season – Barrow Raiders have been putting their noses to the grindstone under new boss Darren Holt.
ALTHOUGH Barrow RLFC are out in the sticks, at the end of a cul-de-sac and miles from anywhere, they have enjoyed many years of success. During the 1930s and 1950s especially, they fielded many brilliant teams, producing no less than 21 players who have represented Great Britain while in Barrow colours. The first on the list was Harry Gifford, more than a century ago in 1908, with David Cairns the last in 1984. Here PADDY McATEER looks back on this elite group
