BARBARA Redshaw’s property isn’t just a home for humans - it has room for her horses, who live just over the garden wall in their own field. As Barbara told SUSAN GOODSON, the family became used to their relaxing in the back garden being supervised by two nosy equines

DESPITE having extended, there is still so much space outside the house Barbara Redshaw shares with her partner, Nigel Johnson.

The front has room to park five vehicles, as well as a lawn area. There would be ample space if someone wanted to park a motor home. And that is just the front of the section.

The heavily extended bungalow - WhiteLadies, North Scale, Walney - has extensive and well-proportioned accommodation, beautiful gardens and a paddock with roadside access and a stable block.

There is a deep garden front with a private driveway to the garage. Inside is an open plan lounge and dining space which overlooks the front garden. The central hallway leads through to the three ground floor bedrooms with the master bedroom laid out in an L-shape with direct access into the garden and an en-suite shower room.

The remaining two bedrooms are both doubles with garden views. The kitchen has been significantly improved with a smart range of fitted units, including an island and then there is a separate laundry room.

Stairs ascend from the kitchen into the loft store room which is heated and has a Velux skylight to the front of the house.

Outside, the fabulous back gardens have private seating on the decking which runs alongside the lawn where there are fruit trees. There is also a timber shed and a summerhouse.

WhiteLadies attracted Barbara’s attention because it was a family home and had such a vast amount of space outside and then a field for her horses.

After moving in 28 years ago, daughter Emily, 28, came along plus there is Callum, now 29. Even though they have their own houses, they are not happy with Barbara and Nigels plan to sell this much-loved family home.

Barbara said: “They have threatened to start a campaign of civil disobedience but there is only the two of us in the house and it is just too big and then there is the land to keep.

“For us it has always been all about the outside space because that is where we spend so much time, but it is a fabulous big home.

“We extended it to the front to give us a conservatory dining room and we didn’t want to lose any of the back garden.

“The extension also created a utility room and we gave the master bedroom its own en suite in 2006 and have also developed the attic.

“The attic is big and has ended up as a storage space but it could easily be converted into an office or another bedroom thanks to its size.

“In recent times we have also had all the outside of the house professionally repainted.”

The beautiful lounge, which is open to the conservatory dining room, has light streaming through it and as a focal point there is a wood-burning stove.

The attractive modern kitchen has a big window overlooking the back garden and glass patio doors which open out to the garden and the decked seated area.

Barbara added: “Out the back the garden gets the sun from morning until evening and is totally private, apart from the horses sticking their heads over the fence to see what we are doing.

“Although we have a large area of lawn for easy maintenance, there are still significant flowerbeds and fruit trees.

“The bedrooms are all double which is handy when you have growing children, but the problem is they have moved on and it is just the two of us and half the house is sort of shut down.

“With the land, summerhouse and shed, it is family home.

“We love it here and I was brought up on Walney, but we have a narrow boat and want to downsize and be able to go away for weekends on the water.

"I have land elsewhere on Walney so the horses will move there.

“We are going to have an open day at the house on Saturday April 29 from 11am until 1pm.”

The house - WhiteLadies, North Scale, Walney - is on the market with Poole Townsend Estate Agents for £325,000.
