THIS well-decorated terraced home in Ulverston boasts two double bedrooms and a modern kitchen for just £150,000, as SUSAN GOODSON discovered

AT his own admittance Brian McMullen is extremely houseproud and has ensured all the work carried out to his home, whether doing it himself or calling in professionals, has always been of the highest standard.

As someone who has had a very active working life, including recreation ranger at Grizedale Forest, he has no plans to sit down and do nothing now he is retired. That includes keeping on top of things in the house.

After being offered first refusal on a Victorian terrace just outside of Ulverston town centre he decided to grab the chance and has really made it an inviting family home.

The red bricked house - 31 Casson Street, Ulverston - has a private entrance hall leading into the property with the staircase immediately ahead and doors alongside opening into the two reception rooms.

The second slightly larger reception room would make an ideal dining room as it is adjacent to the kitchen.

The kitchen has a good range of fitted units with a light oak effect finish to the cabinet and drawer fronts with a contrasting granite-style laminate work top.

From the landing there is access to each of the two double bedrooms. The bathroom has a modern white suite which includes a bath.

Outside to the back is an enclosed yard with handy outbuildings.

Although the house was a typical built-to-last Victorian terrace, Brian said it did need a lot of work doing inside which he was more than happy to take on.

He explained: “I had the front and back doors replaced with modern insulated doors.

"The kitchen had an old fashioned pantry which I pulled out and put in all new units, any window which hadn’t been double glazed were done, a new bathroom suite put in, new radiators and fireplaces.

“The new radiators, fireplaces and plastering were all done by professionals.

“The whole house is looking good and I am proud of it.

“The last room I did up was the master bedroom and it is looking very good. Both of the bedrooms are doubles.

“I have decorated all of the house in neutral colours except one feature wall in one of the reception rooms where the fireplace is.”

One room which Brian has made the most of is the welcoming lounge. The front lounge is really cosy with a central fire, built-in glazed display cabinet to the alcove alongside and cupboard storage beneath.

Brian added: “I love the lounge with its box fire, it is very very comfortable and warm.

“I do love the house and really do enjoy living here, but it would make a wonderful family home or be perfect for a first time buyer because nothing needs to be done to it.

“People could just move in and unless they wanted to redecorate to put their mark on it, they wouldn’t have to do a thing.”

Brian moved in more than nine years ago and loves the town. He describes Ulverston as being like an overgrown village.

He said: “People here are very friendly and I have to say that my neighbours are very, very good and I am going to miss them a lot. “Actually, Ulverston people are extremely friendly and welcoming and I have loved living here.”

The only reason Brian is selling is that he is planning to relocate. The house - 31 Casson Street, Ulverston - is on the market with Poole Townsend Estate Agents for £150,000.
