A HOUSE with beautiful views, in a tranquil setting but just a few minutes walk from the town centre caught the eyes of Carly-Jade and Stephen Holland when they were checking out the property market. As they told SUSAN GOODSON, it stuck in their minds and they were very happy when they made it their family home

CARLY-JADE Holland admits their home was the first one she and husband Stephen looked at when house hunting and despite an extensive search following that viewing, nothing appealed as much.

The couple came back to the extended semi-detached house and happily snapped it up.

While Stephen is local, Carly-Jade comes from Shropshire but has fallen in love with the area and the couple’s two children - Honey, five, and Bliss-Betsy, 15 months - feel the same, especially with the beach just a few minutes away.

There are also plenty of safe places to play outside and inside the house.

The house - 40 Huddleston Road, Millom - is an extended superior semi-detached home with a lounge, kitchen/diner, conservatory downstairs and three bedrooms and a family bathroom upstairs.

Outside to the front is a lawn, slate chippings to the border and a level hedge giving privacy, a path to the front door and side of the house. At the back is a super garden looking out to open fields with the fells in the distance. There is a paved area of patio for garden furniture, lawn and a slate garden bed.

There is also a chipping play area.

Although Carly-Jade says they haven’t made many changes to the house in the three years they have lived in Stephen’s home town, they have made their mark.

She said: “The views are wonderful and looking out over the fields gives an extra feeling of space to the house. It is so quiet here which means that the children can play outside, plus we always have a place to park in front of the house.

“It had already been extended when we bought it with a conservatory, which is a favourite place for the children to play.

“The kitchen dining room has double doors opening out to the conservatory, which faces the fenced-off garden and has stunning views. The girls love it when we open the doors and they can run through the house.

“We have done a lot with the garden and put in a new bathroom.”

The family kitchen has modern farmhouse-style base and wall units, a Belfast sink, a great view and plenty of space for a dining table. A door leads to the good-sized entrance hall which the couple repainted light cream.

The cream lounge is a favourite room of Carly-Jade's and she likes that it is a separate and good for the adults to sit in.

“It is so cosy in winter, has a really attractive modern open pebble living gas fire, looks out over the garden front and gets lots of light from the window."

Upstairs, the first bedroom faces the front and the garden while the second looks out over the back garden and has panoramic views of the countryside. There is also access to the insulated and part-boarded loft from this room.

The third bedroom has been used as a nursery with a cot in the past, but easily takes a single bed.

Talking about the garden, Carly-Jade said: “We spend a lot of time out in the garden and wouldn't want to be without one now. We have a patio section, then a barked area for playing on, one side lawn and a vegetable bed with a slate path dividing sections on the other side. We also have a greenhouse at the bottom.

“The only reason we are selling is Steve is working in Kendal and it is long commute.

“The girls love it here, the neighbours are so good and it is very quiet; plus we are grateful for what you get for your money in the town – the living space and the garden."
